Boom Shakalaka Presents: Baltik Bass vol. 2 Available digitally 23 November 2012 on Maasto Records
In 2010, Helsinki/Finland based DJ collective Boom Shakalaka presented the world with a new genre of electronic folk music called Baltik Bass. By 2011 they had created enough of the new sound to put together a compilation (Boom Shakalaka Presents: Baltik Bass vol. 1), which was well received both among clubbers and folk music enthusiasts.
After the success of the first compilation, the Boom Shakalaka DJs are proud to present a long awaited sequel, and a new batch of electro-folk based on musical traditions from Northern Europe and the Baltic sea region.
The second compilation takes the signature sound a step further. Whereas the first volume was almost exclusively based on traditional "pelimanni music", volume 2 includes also collaborations with more contemporary folk music orchestras, such as folk punk group Tundramatiks and Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha, who in their music blend Finnish adult folk pop with gypsy traditions from the Balkans. The sound is overall more electronic, which was a conscious decision and natural progression for the music according to DJs Emil and Hermanni, who are mostly responsible for the production on the compilation.
Apart from the bands mentioned above, the compilation features a wide variety of folk musicians - ranging from Swedish folk music superstars Hedningarna and Finnish accordion champions Antti Paalanen and Markku Lepistö to Finland Swedish folk group Sammuls and childrenʼs music band Fröbelin Palikat.
Boom Shakalaka DJs, who in their hometown are known as world club music specialists, have a long experience of rocking crowds of all sort. Apart from hosting a world music radio show on the popular urban radio station Basso radio, they regularly play global bass music in clubs and festivals around Finland and abroad.

Gypsy Box born in 2008. He have brought his sound to different clubs and festivals in countries like: Argentine, Chile, México, Spain, France, Denmark, Belgium, Germany,England.

He shared dj booth with famous dj's and artists such as:
Boban Marcovic(Serbia),Fanfare Ciocarlia(Romania),Robert Soko (Germany), Gypsy SoundSystem (Sweden) Coyflex (Denmark) , Sacha Dieu (England) , Dj Click (France), Chico Parany (Argentine), Bubamara Collective (Chile/Argentine) Negro Pesimo (Chile) Ion Din Anina (Spain) Gaetano Fabri (Bélgium) Tziganization Project (Bélgium) Balkan Hot Steppers (Bélgium).

He is the founder of Balkan Fever Party, active member of the collective United Global Beatz and dj resident in different clubs of Spain (Valencia, Seville & Madrid).

DR. MALAKA DJ Set ( London ) For the First Time in Finland

Dr.Malaka hails from the mountainous borderland between Italy and Slovenia. His Austrian,
Slovenian and Italian ancestry meant that Balkan music was a strong force from the very beginning of his life.
Much of his childhood and and youth was spent performing internationally with a folk dance troop.
His career as a DJ started accidentally at a Spanish festival in 2007 - the accident was so successful that Malaka soon made the transition into being a professional DJ, and now regularly plays major festivals across the world, such as Glastonbury, Burning Man and Big Chill,
as well as playing at parties across Europe. His background of folk dance comes through in his super high energy, made-for-dancing DJ sets!

In 2009 he joined forced with Robert Soko to launch BalkanBeats London - an immediate success, which continues to sell out three years later!

This year Dr Malaka is taking his talents to new levels with new projects, he has started producing his own music.

Balkan Fever offers the best Balkan-influenced tunes and grooves from all over the world.

Have you heard of the Dancing Plague of 1518? It was a dancing mania that took place in Strasbourg in 1518. People just couldn't stop dancing, and without rest or sustenance, some fatalities occurred. The Balkan Fever Festival of 2012 will induce dancing mania, too; but where the Alsatians danced for a month, the people of Helsinki will dance for three nights, with plenty of refreshments and other sustenance on hand. This is the sort of choreomania that sets you free instead of enslaving you.

Orkestar Bordurka hails from Borduria, a country with a dark history of meddling with the internal affairs of its neighbor Syldavia. This history in no way detracts from the effervescent beauty of Borduria's music and folklore. How lucky it is, then, that thanks to the good graces and support of the Bordurian Ministry of Culture and Implements we have the chance to witness Orjestar Bordurka in action.

If Balkan Fever Festival nights of Friday and Saturday have not been wild enough for you, don't miss Sunday's Balkan Jam Session with Serefe Sound System. With Vladimir Kekez on percussion, djs Soma, Borzin & Levy in the decks, and of course, some paprika and other goodies cooking in a barbecue, it's a grand finish for the Balkan Fever Festival at mbar terrace.

Serefe Sound System: for one of them it started in a dodgy club in Berlin. For another in a flee-market in Rovaniemi. And the third came from the parking lot after party of a Scandinavian music festival. However, it was a long time until anything actually became of this trio.The first to spark was Jaakko Laitinen with the short lived Orkestar Business Class, and then later the more famous Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha. The other two members took slightly longer to join the international music scene, until Jaakko Laitinen interviewed Arttu Tolonen for a magazine. From there on Serefe Sound System was formed with Teemu and Arttu behind the decks, and Jaakko singing.
